Sonos has announced that their music system will work in conjunction with Pandora, the online music streaming and recommendation system.

With this announcement, Sonos is adding a nifty feature to their already impressive, albeit expensive, music system. The center of the Sonos system is its unique controller, which will now be able to directly access Pandora.com without the use of a computer.

Pandora, which is a great way to hear new music, works by creating a custom “radio channel” based on a users likes or dislikes. For instance, you can type in Dave Mathews and the site will stream musicians and songs it deems similar to Dave Mathews stylistically. Typically, Pandora.com is accessed through a web browser, making a computer a necessity. Sonos however can now bypass a computer and stream the music directly to you music system. From the Sonos website:

The Sonos® Digital Music System liberates Pandora from your PC so you can play all of your Pandora stations all over your house. Best of all, with the wireless Sonos Controller in hand you can create new stations, rate your songs, see full-color album art, and more from anywhere in the house. Just grab the Controller, enter the name of your favorite artist or song, and see your new station in living color—all while lounging on the couch or relaxing in bed. Turn up the volume in one room or turn it off in another.

One thing to keep in mind is that the advertising-free version of Pandora is needed. Subscribers to the ad-free version receive 12 months of unlimited use of Pandora for $36. Subscriptions are offered on an annual basis and require a credit card.
