Floppyhead.com is 2 weeks old (since my first real post). In those 2 weeks, the site has had 620 visits and over 1500 page views. We are on target for over 1000 visitors in one month, which would be a good start. The main traffic drivers are Digg.com and Reddit.com, which is a bit of a concern. By using those 2 sites for marketing, the traffic generated is very up and down. The site has almost no baseline traffic, which is to be expected in such a young site. Of the 620 visits, 250 visits came on two days, with the highest day a result of flame bait on Apple which was posted to Digg.com. I got bored and wanted to see what would happen if I posted a list that disparaged Apple. I did get some good ideas though for future posts based on that post’s comments so it was not entirely fruitless.
My goals over the next two weeks is to improve the information on the site and focusing my efforts towards home theater computers and media centers. I need to pack more information into my posts to make my site actually worth reading. I also want to change my “marketing” efforts to not be reliant on Digg and Reddit. One curious trend I noticed was the lack of Adsense revenue. My goal with Adsense is to make back my monthly hosting cost of $9 a month. From those 620 visits, I have earned about 20% of that monthly cost, which is fairly tiny.
