ABC has announced that starting this summer, it will begin streaming on its website high definition versions of its prime time shows like Lost and Desperate Housewives. The new service will start roll-out this summer with an expanded line-up starting in the fall.
Lost is one of the most recorded television shows on any of the major networks and it looks like ABC is trying to capitalize by luring viewers to its website. ABC had recently updated its streaming service to include a fullscreen option, which was a big improvement over forcing people to watch video in a small window. Fullscreen HD video delivered over the internet would entice a lot of people to watch shows online. Hopefully more networks will follow.

It’s a great concept, but if they are not careful, it will be a disaster. Many web user’s don’t have video cards that can handle a high def feed and I can see many curious onlookers crashing their systems after trying to access the signal. I am not sure how you implement a compatibility check, but if they don’t, it will be a rude introduction for a lot of first time customers.
