With the HP’s announcement that they will no longer be focusing on their line of Digital Entertainment Centers, I have been looking for media center computers that are stylish enough to be in a living room as part of a home theater system. Sony has a couple of interesting media centers that are scheduled to be released this month, the VAIO VGX-XL3 and VGX-TP1. The VGX-TP1 looks like a round version of the Mac Mini. From the Sony website:
The simplistic style of the TP1 PC is not just about form factor, it’s also about interface design. Taking usage scenarios and frequency into consideration, each connection point is thoughtfully placed to ensure easy, efficient access points. Frequently accessed features such as the optical drive, USB ports and multi-card reader are located on the front of the unit, hidden behind a curved slide-away panel, while constantly-connected terminals are hidden from sight on the back of the unit.
The design of the VGX-TP1 is slick and would look impressive in anyone’s home. The website is not clear whether the system offers a Digital Cable Tuner, which could be a big downside. The price is better than the VGX-XL3, though it does not have a a Blu-Ray drive like its big brother.

[...] The TP25, based off of the VGX-TP1, has added that extra digital cable tuner but has lost the sleek form factor. It would look out of place in any home theater set-up. The awkward design is made worse by the fact that the the digital cable tuners are exteranl units. I have no idea why you would deisng a minimalist computer tand then pair it with external tuners. Makes no sense. [...]
