Todd Hedrick, the project planner for Windows Home Server, launched a blog this week. From the blog:

The Windows Home Server team is eager to share news, insights and information about our product. And we’re equally eager to hear your thoughts and feedback. This blog will include contributions from the product management team, development team, support team and the marketing team.

Hopefully this site will shed light on why I/you should purchase a Windows Home Server and provide answers to some of the questions I have about its features. I am looking to expand my network storage and Windows Home Server appeals to me though its price will have a big impact on if I buy one (or buy the software). A Ubuntu server might do an adequate job for my needs and he software is free.

Windows Home Server is Microsoft’s attempt at simplifying the home network for consumers with no technical expertise and help them set up a home server and use it for file sharing, backup, and as an always-on library of media. The Windows Home Server is for households that want to share storage among multiple PCs or Xbox game consoles. It will provide automatic backup, easier storage expansion and connectivity among different devices, including Zune media players. Click to see a video of the software in action.

Devices using the Windows Home Server operating system are expected to be available mid-2007.
