Snapstream updating Beyond TV for Vista compatibility

Blogroll, HDTV, Vista Media Center

Snapstream is currently working on updating BeyondTV (which is a program that lets you watch HDTV on your computer) to be fully Vista compatible with Beyond TV 4.6, testing. Currently in beta, the updates will extend beyond just Vista comptability with bug fixes of FSGUI cpu spikes, static/video distortion/audio distortion at the beginning of recordings, or Web Admin download links not working. In the works for version 4.6 are also some improvements to DivX ShowSqueezing and some additional Divx 6.4 improvements including the integration of the DivX 6.4 decoder.

I currently use Snapstream’s BeyondTV to record high definition TV over the airwaves. With Windows XP, it was easier to install Beyond TV than a whole new operating system like Windows MCE. With the upcoming release of Microsoft’s Vista and Media Center tightly integrated into the operating system, I wonder how much of a market Beyond TV will have in the future.

[...] BeyondTV will start supporting recording in h.264 and a rss feed that makes getting shows into iTunes automatic. Unfortunately, these features will cost you extra, similar to the DVD burning plugin they offer. From the announcement: The plugin allows recompression to the h.264 format and an rss feed that makes getting shows into iTunes automatic (which then can sync to your iPod video, iPhone or Apple TV). The plugin will be bundled for sale/trial with the DVD burning plugin. Any user that already bought the DVD burning plugin will get h.264 at no charge. [...]
